Do-it-Yourself Upgrade

On this page:

  • Uninstall previous versions of McAfee VirusScan and other anti-virus software
  • Install VirusScan 8.5i
  • After installation

Pre-installation

  1. Print this page (or save it as a PDF) for reference. Some of the steps below will require that you disconnect your computer from the Internet to prevent virus infections while your computer is unprotected.
  2. Download McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.5i to your desktop. When prompted, enter your BC username & password. Save the VirusScan8.5Setup.exe installation file to your desktop. Do not install the application at this time.
  3. Warning

Caution: Sonic RecordNow users need to update your existing Drive Letter Access (DLA) and RecordNow drivers before installing VirusScan.

If your current VirusScan settings exclude certain files or folders from the On-Access Scan, those exclusion settings will be deleted during the installation process. Make a note of the files and folders excluded. Once your computer has been successfully upgraded you will need to restart your computer and add the exclusions.

  4. Disconnect your computer from the Internet -- unplug the ethernet cable and/or disconnect from the wireless network.
  5. Quit out of any open applications.

Uninstall previous versions of McAfee VirusScan or other anti-virus software

To successfully upgrade your computer and stay protected, it is critical that you complete this step. If you install McAfee 8.5i over version 8.0, you will break the ePO installation and you will no longer receive automatic updates.
